The 39 Clues Book 4: Shatterproof vs. Book  The Black Circle.

In my book report I am comparing two of the 39 Clue books. The first book I read is called Shatterproof written by Roland Smith. The second book I read is call the Black Circle. It is written by Patrick Carman. Both of the books have the same main characters, Dan and Amy Chills. Dan and   Amy are brother and sister and together they solve mysteries around the world.

The first book I read is called Shatterproof. The story takes place in Berlin Germany. Amy and Dan’s family get kidnaped. In order to save their family they have to steal a 10 million dollar diamond. They had to break into a museum where the diamond was held and swapped it with a fake one. During the process they almost got caught by the security guards. They finally pay the ransom with the diamond but not before two of their family members are killed. But by the end of the story Dan and Amy are able to save the rest of their family.

The second book I read is called the Black Circle. The story takes place in Russia. Amy and Dan are trying to find the killer that killed part of their family. Throughout the story Dan and Amy are being followed by a group of spies.  To escape the spies Dan and Amy put on disguises. By the end of the book they find out that one of the spies is the king’s daughter Amber. Amber is the same spy that helped them solve an earlier mystery in book 1. Amber helps Dan and Amy solve the case.

Both of the books have several things in common. In both books Dan and Amy are looking for a killer that killed or kidnaped part of their family. And in both books they have to face some very dangerous people. These two books also have some differences. In book 1 Shatterproof Dan and Amy are looking for an assassin. In book 2 the Black Circle they are finding a spy. In Shatterproof, Dan and Amy have less help as there are less characters in the story. But in the Black Circle Dan and Amy have more characters to help them solve the case.

My favorite book was the Black Circle because it was more adventurous. I really liked how in the Black Circle, Dan and Amy visit more than one city and there were many characters in the story. My favorite part of the Black Circle was when Amber was almost arrested and how she was able to help them solve the case. The reason why I didn’t like Shatterproof as much was because I thought that it was messed up that even though Dan and Amy were an hour late bringing the diamond to the killers, the killers still shot two of their family members. I also didn’t like that Shatterproof took place in only one city instead of a lot of cities. The lesson that I learned is that you need to tell people where you are going so that if you get kidnapped someone would have a better chance of finding you. In conclusion, I really liked both of the 39 Clue books and I would recommend them both to young readers that like adventure books. My favorite book was the Black Circle because it was more adventurous.
