A different kind of education begins with a different question—not how to make a child fit the system, but what kind of environment will help that child grow.
Education Should Make Room for the Child
Feral Kids Academy grew out of a simple frustration: children are often expected to adapt themselves to a system that was not built around their individual strengths, interests, pace, personality, or way of understanding the world.
We wanted something more flexible. Something that could make room for books and technology, but also forests, road trips, conversations, practical skills, relationships, mistakes, questions, and experiences that do not fit neatly inside a traditional subject box.
Feral Kids Academy is our attempt to bring those pieces together into an education shaped around real children living real lives.
This Started at Home
Feral Kids Academy did not begin as a company or a packaged curriculum. It began as our family’s homeschool—an evolving collection of ideas, experiments, resources, routines, failures, discoveries, and experiences built around the children we were actually raising.
Over time, we found ourselves building our own approach instead of following one program. Some learning happened through books. Some through online tools. Some on the road, outdoors, in museums, at home, through conversation, or simply because one of the kids became fascinated with something and wanted to understand it.
Feral Kids Academy grew from that process. What you see here is not a theory about how children should learn. It is a living framework shaped by actually doing it.
Principles for the Trail
Feral Kids Academy is flexible by design, but there are a few ideas underneath everything we do.
Curiosity Matters
A child who knows how to ask questions, investigate, and keep learning carries that ability far beyond any single lesson.
Experience Is Education
Nature, travel, projects, responsibility, relationships, and everyday life can teach things that no worksheet can fully reproduce.
Children Develop Differently
Pace, interests, strengths, challenges, maturity, and learning styles vary. Education should be able to respond to that reality.
Character Matters
Confidence, resilience, responsibility, empathy, honesty, courage, and relationships matter just as much as academic achievement.
The World Is Part of the Classroom
Learning should connect children to the places, people, problems, responsibilities, and opportunities around them.
Education Should Prepare Kids for Life
The goal is larger than completing a grade level. We want children to become capable people who can think, adapt, communicate, create, and keep growing.
Sharing What We Learn Along the Way
Feral Kids Academy is still rooted in our own family’s education, but the ideas have grown beyond our household. This site is where we share the tools, stories, activities, resources, experiences, and approaches that have become useful along the way.
Families do not need to copy our homeschool to use Feral Kids Academy. Take what fits. Adapt what needs changing. Ignore what does not serve your child. The point is not to recreate our path. It is to help you become more intentional about building your own.
